National Hazing Prevention Week


National Hazing Prevention and Awareness Week takes place during the third week of September. UCF sponsors various events, workshops and educational sessions to help students understand the impact of hazing, including the short-term and long-term consequences associated with participation in these activities.

Wednesday (9/24) – “Know the Facts”


Morning Visibility:
  • Social media posts with myths vs. facts about hazing.
Signature Program:
  • Parents & Police Breakfast Evelyn & Jim Piazza and Rae Ann Gruver have the opportunity to engage with the UCFPD Command Staff, Criminal Investigation Division, and Victim’s Services.
  • Lunch & Learn with the Fraternity & Sorority Council and Chapter Leaders Council and Chapter leaders within FSL deep-dive session with Evelyn & Jim Piazza about combatting an environment where hazing can happen.
  • Kickoff & Keynote: The Cost of Hazing Come learn more about the impacts that hazing and how YOU can help through the stories shared by Evelyn & Jim Piazza and their son, Tim.
  • Time & Location: 6:00 p.m. in the Live Oak Ballroom
  • Audience: Campus-wide (fraternities/sororities, athletics, bands, clubs, faculty/staff).
  • Takeaway: Students understand that hazing has lifelong and life-threatening consequences

Thursday (9/25) – “Traditions Reimagined”


Morning Visibility:
  • Social media posts with myths vs. facts about hazing.
Signature Program:
  • Healthy Belonging Activities Social media challenge to share your favorite, healthy way to bond with the groups in which you participate.
  • Time & Location: All Day
  • Audience: Campus-wide (fraternities/sororities, athletics, bands, clubs, faculty/staff).
  • Takeaway: Post your idea of reimagining a tradition in your student group.

Friday (9/26) – “What Would You Do?”


Morning Visibility:
  • Sidewalk chalk messages and social media posts with myths vs. facts about hazing.
Signature Program:
  • Conversation Starters Activity Be on the lookout for scenarios on digital signs in the Student Union.
  • Time & Location: Ongoing, Student Union Food Court area.
  • Audience: Campus-wide (fraternities/sororities, athletics, bands, clubs, faculty/staff).
  • Takeaway: Post to social media your responses of ideas to address the grey-zone areas.

Saturday (9/27) & Sunday (9/28) – “Centering Belonging”


Morning Visibility:
  • Post the QR Code with for the Activity.
Signature Program:
  • What Belonging Looks Like Activity RSO, Chapter Leaders, Band Section Leaders & Team Captains use the posted QR Code to take 15-20 minutes in their meetings or dedicated bonding activity to consider how to create connection without harm.
  • Time & Location: Dependent on each group.
  • Audience: Campus-wide (fraternities/sororities, athletics, bands, clubs, faculty/staff).
  • Takeaway: Reinforces that hazing is incompatible with the culture students want to build.

Monday (9/29) – “Take the Pledge”


Morning Visibility:
  • Sidewalk chalk messages and social media posts with myths vs. facts about hazing.
Signature Program:
  • Pledge Banner Signing “Taking the pledge is more than a signature — it’s a public commitment to create and sustain a culture of respect, safety, and belonging where hazing has no place.”
  • Time & Location: 12 -3 p.m.; Student Union South Patio
  • Audience: Campus-wide (fraternities/sororities, athletics, bands, clubs, faculty/staff).
  • Takeaway: A collective pledge shows that hazing prevention is not just an administrative rule but a shared student value.

Tuesday (9/30) – “Know their Stories”


Morning Visibility:
  • Sidewalk chalk messages and social media posts with myths vs. facts about hazing.
Signature Program:
  • Honoring the Lives Lost to Hazing Showcasing the stories and photos of many of the individuals who lost their lives because of hazing.
  • Time & Location: 10 – 4 p.m.; Student Union Atrium
  • Audience: Campus-wide (fraternities/sororities, athletics, bands, clubs, faculty/staff).
  • Takeaway: Recognize the real people that hazing impacts -magnifies the harm in real life.
